Peoplesoft Middleware Systems Analyst

As a member of the Project Team, the Middleware Systems Analyst will support the ongoing production, maintenance and implementation of the Finance, HR, Student Administration, Portal and Reporting functions of PeopleSoft. This position will work closely with the project managers, developers, analysts, testers and key business partners. This person will work in various teams, and will need to have the ability to work independently and prioritize tasks to meet project deadlines.
The incumbent provides technical analysis and support in one or more of the following areas: Finance, Human Resources, Research Administration, or Student.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
” Performs responsibilities as detailed on the approved Project Work Plan, engages and contributes to project meetings, and commits to training as required
” Setup and/or manage PeopleSoft environments:
o Install and configure PeopleSoft system on UNIX-style and Window servers in a multi-server, load balanced HA environment
o Manage web server, application server, reporting and process scheduler environments.
o Ensure PS environment health by resolving issues from system and data dictionary audits
” Environment Monitoring:
o Configure Application, Web and Batch server alerts and notifications
o Maintains up-to-date system with upgrades, patches and fixes.
o Integrate, monitor and manage integration with enterprise portal environment
” Server Admin tasks with batch, web and application server:
o Tune PeopleSoft Internet Architecture and report manager
o Provide support to Application development team with tuning and troubleshooting
o Troubleshoot server issues and monitor logs on a daily basis
o Assist with batch job setup and execution
o Provide support by troubleshooting and fine tuning performance issues.
” Provide support for the Change Management and Version Control procedures.
” Work with various tools, including PeopleSoft Tools, Change Asst, Upgrade Asst, Apps Designer, Data Mover, SQR, SQL, and STAT for change management and version control.
” Follow application deployment procedures that satisfy University IT Controls policies.
” Work with Database Administrator (DBA), UNIX System Administrator and application group to resolve technical issues.
” Informs Senior Systems Analyst or designated project manager of any information that may identify challenges to project schedules, missed project deliverables, incomplete tasks or inaccurate results
” Maintains operational status of production computer systems outside of normal working hours, including early morning, evening, nights, weekends and holidays.
REQUIRED BACKGROUND
” University degree with a concentration in computing or business with relevant experience (or an equivalent combination of education and experience)
” Demonstrated proficiency in the development, implementation and maintenance of information systems.
SPECIALIZED SKILLS:
” Knowledge of multi-tier, multi-O/S application environments, including virtualization strategies.
” Experience with monitoring, response and remediation strategies.
” Knowledge of programming techniques, PeopleTools development technology and JDeveloper
” Knowledge of relational database design with Oracle, knowledge of SQL, PL/SQL
” Demonstrated analytical skills
” Understanding of the Software Design Life Cycle
” High degree of technical knowledge related to system management, tuning and performance
” Highly developed interpersonal skills to deal with both technical and non-technical staff at all levels
DECISION MAKING:
” Determines appropriate action to take when a system fails outside of normal working hours.
” Makes recommendations on appropriate solutions to system integration difficulties; responds appropriately to escalated support requirements to address application, database and maintenance problems
” Determines appropriate problem-solving procedures and decide how to best rectify the problem. Decide if a problem should be referred to others.
” Allocates time, prioritizes tasks and determines work flow. Continually assesses and adjusts priorities and manages tasks in a fast-paced and demanding environment.
